Dave had his cell phone's volume turned down too low. Fixing the problem resulted in increased road noise during the seven minute portion of the conversation. Please try to suffer through it if you can; it's only a portion of the recording that is affected. After downloading and extracting the kernel source tree into your /usr/src/ directory, create a symlink from the newly created directory to /usr/src/linux, then cd to /usr/src/linux/ and issue the following command as root:

where 2.6.24 is the version of the kernel you just compiled. Edit your /boot/grub/menu.lst file to include the new stanza necessary to boot your new kernel.
