Podcast 65 from lottalinuxlinks.com.
Topics include:

In today's podcast dave talks with Xoke from irc. Geeky banter galore. It may get hard to listen to in the middle part, as dave's commute takes him into a heavy, but short rain storm.

Podcast 64 from lottalinuxlinks.com.
Topics include:

In today's hastily planned podcast dave has a shorter than expected conversation with gorkon. After that dave just sorta spirals out of control. Listeners beware, dave foolishly neglected to monitor his recording levels and there is a lot of clipped audio in this one. Please forgive him.

LLL63 addendum part III
Kernel compiling the old fashioned way (or like granny used to do it)

To be safe/cover the bases, make sure that these packages have been installed: kernel-package,build-essential,libncurses5-dev,libqt3-mt-dev,libqt3-headers, and module-assistant.

After downloading and extracting the kernel source tree into your /usr/src/ directory, create a symlink from the newly created directory to /usr/src/linux, then cd to /usr/src/linux/ and issue the following command as root:

make oldconfig

Select the default answers, or Y, N, or M as needs suit.

Next issue the following commands as root:

make dep (I don't think this command is necessary with kernel 2.6.x)

make clean

make bzImage

make modules

make modules_install

make install

You will also need to run this command:

mkinitramfs -o /boot/init-2.6.24.img 2.6.24

where 2.6.24 is the version of the kernel you just compiled.

Edit your /boot/grub/menu.lst file to include the new stanza necessary to boot your new kernel.

Note: If you recompile/rebuild a kernel from a kernel source tree directory where you have previously run any of the above commands, you will need to first run a make mrproper to tidy up the source tree before proceeding. ymmv

LLL63 addendum part II
How to compile a kernel downloaded from kernel.org on a debian based distro (or the commands I mentioned in LLL63, or the world's shortest kernel howto):

To be safe/cover the bases, make sure that these packages have been installed: kernel-package,build-essential,libncurses5-dev,libqt3-mt-dev,libqt3-headers, and module-assistant.

After downloading and extracting the kernel source tree into your /usr/src/ directory, create a symlink from the newly created directory to /usr/src/linux, then cd to /usr/src/linux/ and issue the following command as root:

make oldconfig

Select the default answers, or Y, N, or M as needs suit.

Next issue this command as root:

make-kpkg --initrd buildpackage kernel_image

Go watch TV and come back in an hour, and then issue this command (again as root):

dpkg -i ../*.deb

Reboot :-D

More podcast feed choices
Good news for all (including Dann S. Washko): I have added an additional rss feed while noticably improving the sound quality of the ogg files too. The new feed will only contain no more than the most recent 11 episodes of the podcast.

The lottalinuxlinks.com linux user podcast feeds:

mp3 feed (low quality):http://lottalinuxlinks.com/podcast/rss.xml

ogg feed (high quality):http://lottalinuxlinks.com/podcast/ogg.xml
