Click N' Run basic free as in beer, soon to be free as in speech.
Linspire's click n run service (basic level) will be free of charge from now on. Even better, the click n run software is suppossed to be open sourced soon. This could be huge. Imagine if software installation under linux were no longer an issue for the new linux user. I have never used linspire, or click n run (probably will never use it), but if this software works as advertised and becomes improved, adopted , and widespread enough, this would remove a serious road block for lots of potential new linux users. Making this app open source, will improve the app, make larger the library of installable apps, highlight to new users just how vast the foss world is, and make it easier to find replacement apps, for closed source apps they currently use. If installing free software on linux becomes as easy as installing software on windows for the new user, Microsoft will have one less thing to retain already dissatisfied users. Making apps easier to install for the new linux user could quickly change the linux user landscape. This MIGHT be big. Time will tell. Read the news: Linspire frees "Click 'N Run" software service
