Is blosxom getting old?
I love the blosxom blogging software! I have used it for a very long time now, and it just works. I had some problems recently though. Blosxom will auto generate rss feeds of your blog postings quite nicely, the feeds work with google reader, the planet web feed aggregator software, and every feed reader I have ever tried. Yesterday though, I sent an email to all my linux podcasting friends about setting up something like a linux podcaster planet, and before the day was over with, Linc from tllts had set up a wordpress aggregator that looked great and worked like a charm. Well, it worked like a charm for everyone's feeds (including my podcast feed), but it didn't work for my blosxom blog feed. I tried a plugin to make the feed more rss 1.0 complient, and then I tried another plugin to make it rss 2.0 complient. No joy was to be had. At Linc's suggestion, I tried setting up a feed burner feed. Lo and behold it worked. The only problem now is that I have to change the way I blog (I think) to create a feed specifically for the new site, which by the way is linuxplanet.org the blogs, and linuxplanet.org the podcasts. If I decide not to create a second feed (something I really don't want to do) then I will have to decide between participating on the blog portion of the linuxplanet page, or risk the ire of my fellow podcasters by my blog feed having my shownotes in them. I said all that to say this; this is a test.

Software Freedom Day and the Atlanta Linux Fest
Drove down to Atlanta this morning with a couple of guys from my LUG, Jas Eckard and David Nalley, to pimp the SouthEast LinuxFest. Technically, David Nalley, a Fedora Ambassador, went to speak at the event, but he helped Jas and I drum up support for SELF too. The event we went to was the Atlanta Linux Fest, a Software Freedom Day event put on by the Ubuntu Georga Loco group. The event was distro agnostic, and all about free software. I was even allowed to speak about the SouthEast LinuxFest (SELF). We handed out about 100 SELF flyers too. This was a great event that was planned in abouut 6 weeks, and had around 140 people show up. There were talks on Fedora 10, dual booting linux, lotus symphony, ssh and gpg, virtulization, and 3d gaming. Good times were had by all in attendance. A day full of free software talks, an installfest, and pizza too--what's not to like? I recorded some content for the podcast too. Many thanks go to Josh Chase, from the linuxcrypt podcast, and Nick Ali from the Ubuntu Podcast, and the Ubuntu Georgia Loco group for putting on such a wonderful Software Freedom Day/Linux Install Fest event.

lottalinuxlinks.com mirrored
Thanks to the generosity of my friend Ken Fallon, my entire website (with the exception of the forum) is now mirrored on a debian box he gave me in the Netherlands. I may get around to mirroring the forums eventually, (once I figure out database replication, or some kind of high availbilty clustering solution--and happen to have the time too) but for now I am happy having everything else mirrored. So, in case my dsl ever goes down again, this site can still be reached at nl.lottalinuxlinks.com.
