I saw "Apaptation" night before last
"Adaptation" may not be one of the top 10 movies I have ever seen. It is a good movie though; and may be Nicolas Cage's best movie yet. It also stars Meryl Streep and Best Supporting Actor Winner Chris Cooper. The movie was written by Charlie Kaufman and directed by Spike Jonze. Cage plays screenwriter Chralie Kaufman and his twin bother Donald Kaufman. Soon after completing his work on "Being John Malkovich" Charlie (Cage) is hired to write the screenplay for a movie based on a best selling book written by Streep about an obsessive orchid hunter (Cooper). As Charlie is having trouble writing the screenplay, he ends up writing himself and his twin brother into the movie. Talk about life imatating art. Kaufman writes a movie about himself writing himself into a movie. Not as confusing as "Memento", but as orginal. This is a fun movie. Also reminds me of "American Splendour" in some ways. If you like original comedy, and drama mixed then you will probably enjoy this movie.

On being unemployed
I have been unemployed now for 8 monthes. There are things that are nice about being unemployed; being home with my daughters, working on my computer, going to bed late, and....well that might be about all that's nice about it actually. For the most part it is not fun at all. I have been through a variety of emotions (most of them succesfully supressed, as I so often do) since being layed off. The most recent emotion (anger) I started experienceing about 48 hours ago; and I was entirely unsuccessful in supressing it. I am still mad now, if I think about it. I am tired of being unemployed. I am tired of hearing about my unemployment too. I am tired of thinking about it. I am suprised actually that it has taken me this long to become angry. Knowing my personality though, this was inevitable. I usually hold things in till I explode; then I get over it. I think this has just happened to me. It's probably a good thing. Now I can get over it, and get on with my unemployment and hopefully end this chapter of my life in relative short order.

Next I hope to customize this blog in a way that allows me to rotate randomly the pictures in the left hand column. By the way, those are photos that I took with my Canon S45 digital camera. When time permits I will be changing them, and working on a way to randomize them somewhat (or less imaginatively put them in some kind of gallery).

I have finally gotten around to adding comment/discussion functionality to this site. If anyone is actually reading this, please try it out. I also added several days ago the little search thingy at the top left hand corner of this blog. It is quite neat really; it will even use regexp in the search. You can now search the entire blog for any word you like. WOOT! (perl is very neat)

FC2 Screenshot take 2 (getting there)
Here is another screenshot of my fedora core 2 desktop. This one is more customized than the first nearly stock desktop screenshot that I posted nearly 10 days ago. I am still patiently waiting on the non-open source drivers from NVidia for my GeForce 4 Ti4600, so I can run a dual head configuration again. This is what my finished fc1 screenshot looked like: fc1 desktop (big file).
